Why Donate Money at All? Can you really have a positive impact with donations? (Contact person: Alex Cristia)

In this first meeting, Romain Barbe presents the key factors often holding back those who’d like to do good with their donation money: The uncertainty of whether we can have a positive impact at all. Co-founder and current director of Mieux Donner (mieuxdonner.fr), Romain brings useful quantitative evidence in response to each challenge.

Tax-Deductibility in Donations: Why (not) take it into account when choosing who and how much to donate? (Contact person: Alex Cristia)

We'll be watching & discussing Mata'i Souchon's talk on the topic. Mata’i has been active in animal rights for many years, but his talk does not bear on that. Instead, it’s a tour de force asking all the questions you may have about this: Why do some organisations say that it’ll only cost me 30€ when I give 90? And if I declare my donations, won’t this mean less money to pay teachers and doctors?

Interrogating Your Values and Making Your Choices (Contact person: Alex Cristia)

This session will be fully hands-on, aimed at helping participants finalize their donation decisions. I’ll try to help you reflect on your donor values (e.g., the extent to which you are conservative versus comfortable with some amount of risk; the relative value you give to human versus non-human lives). Jeremy Dubois and Mata’i Souchon, for their part, can help you calculate the optimal amount of money you could donate given you likely taxes.
