raceWe often discuss about barriers to diversity as a function of gender and race, but we hear a lot less about another massive effect: low geographic diversity.

This event aims to promote a discussion about geographic diversity in science, particularly among expat scientists at the ENS, through a meeting with the creators of the podcast series "Con Ciencia".

con ciencia

This podcast series features interviews with researchers from around the world to understand how they got to where they are, what they are working on, and how they view science. It focuses on developmental cognitive science, a relatively unknown interdisciplinary field. The idea came from Julia Hermida, adjunct professor at the National University of Hurlingham, and assistant researcher at the National Council of Scientific Research, Argentina, and Alejandrina Cristia, researcher at the ENS. They produce and conduct the interviews.

To get the discussion started, the creators of Con Ciencia Podcast summarize key points emerging from interviews in the first season. The scientists interviewed, all based in Latin America, share the enthusiasm for the creation of knowledge we see in the USA & EU, but additionally face unique obstacles, such as funding limitations and bias against non-native writers.
